What's New ...

  • 2008/04/14 Hyrax 1.4.1 An update for Hyrax 1.4 is now available. This update fixes a memory error in the 1.4.0 version. You only need to update the BES for this update.
  • 2008/02/29 Hyrax 1.4.0 Source code and Binaries for Hyrax 1.4.0 are now available. This release includes bug fixes for issues found in version 1.3.1 plus changes that have greatly increased response speeds and made the server easier to integrate with the look and feel of existing web sites.
  • 2007/12/04 Hyrax 1.3.1 Source code and Binaries for Hyrax 1.3.1 are now available. This is a bug-fix release for Hyrax 1.3.0. One problem which affected smaller machines was fixed and some improvements were made to the binary packages.
  • 2007/11/14 Hyrax 1.3.0 This update to Hyrax includes important bug fixes, a new Hyrax control script and support for Unix compress.
  • 2007/05/21 Hyrax 1.2.1: OLFS 1.2.3 and bes 3.5.1 Fixed a problem with the transmission of some large 32-bit floating point arrays. See the bes and OLFS pages for more information and to download the software. Also see the Hyrax page to get the complete Hyrax data server.
  • 2007/05/14 Hyrax 1.2.1 and bes 3.5.0 Revamped support for compressed data files. See the bes page for more information and to download the software. Also see the Hyrax page to get the complete Hyrax data server. This release of the BES addresses some important security issues.
  • 2007/05/03 bes 3.4.2. This is a bug fix release. See the bes page for more information and to download the software. Also see the Hyrax to get the complete Hyrax data server.
  • 2007/04/23 - Hyrax 1.2 This release features support for multiple BES's: Data providers may configure a single Hyrax installation to work with multiple BES's. See the Hyrax page for more information and to download the software.
  • 2007/03/13 - Hyrax 1.1 Hyrax 1.1 is out. This release features bug fixes and a new install feature that sets up the server with some test data for each handler. See Hyrax 1.1.
  • OPeNDAP Developers Workshop - February 21-23, 2007

Read Reports and Presentations presented at the conference including the following from HAO:

  • 2007/02/15 - The second beta release of Hyrax (aka Server4) is available.

This is a bug fix release. We have also improved the documentation and tested and documented configuration of Hyrax with Apache. This makes it easy to install Hyrax and ensure that all of your old URLs still work!

We also have a new web page for the server which collects all of the components in one place (Hyrax) and a modified page for the old CGI-based server. Lastly, we have a new page that lists all of our data handlers, including those that are only available from our source code control system.

See download page for more information.

  • New OPeNDAP HAO documentation

  • 2006/10/12 - The OPeNDAP IDL Client is now available.

The OPeNDAP IDL Client is an IDL tool which provides access to OPeNDAP data in IDL. The IDL client now uses the OPeNDAP C API(v-1.33) in place of the OPeNDAP CPP API. This removes the problems caused by runtime incompatibilities. The idl-client code, both .PRO files and external reference modules (idl_opendap.c) have been modified to work with the new OCAPI implementation. The behavior of the new IDL client remains consistent with previous versions of the client code. The code base for this client has been named idl-client which differentiates it from the previous client that was named idl-cmdln.

See download page for more information.

What is OPeNDAP?

OPeNDAP: Open-source Project for a Network Data Access Protocol

OPeNDAP is a framework that simplifies all aspects of scientific data networking.

OPeNDAP provides software which makes local data accessible to remote locations regardless of local storage format. OPeNDAP also provides tools for transforming existing applications into OPeNDAP clients (i.e., enabling them to remotely access OPeNDAP served data).

OPeNDAP in HAO

HAO has been developing the next generation OPeNDAP that utilizes a flexible software framework for distribution of information, including but not limited to current OPeNDAP data response objects DAS, DDS, DataDDS, Ascii, Info, and HTML (the old .das, .dds, .dods, .ascii, .info, and .html extensions on the DAP URLs.)

The new framework incorporates a new stand-alone back end server (the BES) that responds to requests made by clients to create data views, access data views (das, dds, etc...), constrain data, aggregate data. The framework is a modular design which allows data providers to implement new data handlers easily, dynamically loading data modules into the BES, new data views, new aggregation methods, new reporting mechanisms, new transmission methods, new ways of providing data catalogs, and more.

Please check out our architecture description for more information.
